Ratings

Every creator declares a content rating for their project before publishing: E, 10+, 13+, or 18+. It is their own statement about who the work is for.

  • E: suitable for everyone, with no scary or mature content.
  • 10+: mild fantasy peril or cartoon-style action, suitable for ages 10 and up.
  • 13+: frightening scenes, stronger conflict, or mild language, suitable for ages 13 and up.
  • 18+: mature themes such as graphic violence or adult subject matter, for adults only.

Who can sign up

CharID is for people 13 and older. Signing up asks for a date of birth, and an account is never created for someone under 13.

What gets a work hidden

The owner always sees their own work, whatever its rating. E, 10+, and 13+ work is open to everyone, including signed-out readers and minors. 18+ work opens only for a signed-in adult: a minor never sees it, and a signed-out reader is asked to sign in first, since their age isn't known. An unrated work is hidden from minors until the owner chooses a rating, so a signed-out reader or an adult can still open it from an existing link in the meantime.

Browse pages, listings, and search only ever show work a reader is actually allowed to open, so 18+ work never appears in a list for a signed-out visitor.

How to report a rating

On any published book's page, use "Report this rating" near the rating badge. Signed-in readers can suggest what the rating should be and add an optional note. The report goes to the admin inbox for review.
